Reset ERS

Reset ERS only when you intend to remove its active installation and initialize a new one on the existing appliance.

ERS reset permanently deletes active ERS application data and configuration, ERS administrator and client credentials, and HSM connection settings and provider files. ERS remains stopped until you complete a new bootstrap.

The reset keeps appliance infrastructure, Management accounts, uploaded HSM libraries, existing backups and Git history. Keys on external HSMs remain there. This operation does not erase the appliance or zeroize an HSM.

Before you begin

Use a Management administrator account and active cluster access. Confirm the appliance identity with the service owner and agree which ERS data will be deleted. Finish any update or conflicting operation.

If the current data must remain recoverable, complete the backup and external retention procedure before resetting. A reset has no undo button; any restoration follows the separate recovery procedure. Retain any external HSM material and credentials required by your recovery plan.

Delete and reset ERS

  1. Open ERS > Advanced.

  2. Select Reset ERS.

  3. Read the lists of data deleted and kept. Verify that this is the appliance you intend to reset.

  4. Enter DELETE ERS in the confirmation field and select Delete and reset ERS.

  5. Follow the cleanup status. A new bootstrap remains locked until cleanup finishes.

If the reset pauses, resolve the reported problem, restore cluster access if necessary, and use Resume reset. Do not start a new installation to bypass unfinished cleanup.

Verify the Result

Confirm that ERS setup becomes available after cleanup and that the previous ERS applications are no longer serving the old installation. Then follow Initialize ERS with the new configuration.

If cleanup cannot finish, collect diagnostics and include the reset stage and appliance identity in the support request.
