For the latest version, please use Virtual Appliance 1.0.3! |
Installation
Install Management first, then use its web application to install the Appliance on the target VMs. Choose how to run Management and how to bring the Appliance release into your network before downloading files.
Installation Steps
-
Complete Preparation: check the hardware requirements, reserve IP addresses and DNS names and configure the firewall rules.
-
Deploy Management using one of the options below. Verify that it is healthy and that you can sign in as an administrator.
-
Prepare the Appliance release and boot media using the connected or air-gapped path below.
-
Install the Appliance. Submit the plan in Management, prepare the Proxmox or VMware targets, confirm the disks and run the installation.
-
Retain the generated artifact bundle outside Management, verify the installed Appliance and initialize ERS.
Choose the Management Deployment Method
Both options run the same Management application. Choose one for your deployment:
| Deployment | What you provide | Start here |
|---|---|---|
Docker |
An operator workstation or Linux VM with a supported container runtime, persistent storage, networking and TLS. |
Prepare the container image, then deploy with Docker Compose. |
Management ISO |
An AMD64 VM with a dedicated state disk. The ISO supplies the host and Management application and stays attached on every boot. |
For an air-gapped Management host, transfer the container image or Management ISO into the environment before starting it. The container guide includes save and load commands. The Management ISO includes Management’s internal services. You still need a separate Appliance release bundle and Appliance boot media with either option.
Choose the Appliance Preparation Method
The same installation wizard handles both paths. The difference is how you make the release bundle and boot media available.
| Network | Preparation | Guide |
|---|---|---|
Connected |
Management retrieves the release bundle from a registry. The operator downloads the Appliance boot media and checksum for the selected release. |
|
Air-gapped |
Use a connected workstation to obtain the release archive and boot media, transfer them into the isolated environment, then upload the release archive to Management. |
Choose the air-gapped path whenever Management cannot reach the source registry, even if the operator workstation has internet access. Internal DNS, time services and connectivity between Management and the Appliance nodes are required for both paths.
A fresh installation needs a full release bundle. Update bundles apply only to an existing Appliance and are covered in Updates.
Keep the generated artifact bundle, backups and release records in an access-controlled location outside Management. See Files and bundles for the purpose of each file.
