End Entity Passwords

End entity passwords enable certificate self-service by allowing end entities to authenticate to MTG-CLM and issue their own certificates according to assigned policies. This capability simplifies certificate issuance while maintaining security controls.

Understanding End Entity Passwords

Each end entity password:

  • Is uniquely associated with a specific end entity and policy combination.

  • Allows the end entity to authenticate to MTG-CLM.

  • Enables certificate issuance within the constraints of the assigned policy.

  • Provides a secure method for automated certificate operations.

Multiple end entities can share a common password, facilitating management of groups of related entities.

Business Benefits

  • Reduced administrative overhead by enabling self-service certificate issuance.

  • Improved security through policy-based controls on certificate parameters.

  • Efficient operations for systems requiring automated certificate management.

  • Consistent certificate practices across distributed environments.

Managing End Entity Passwords

Viewing Passwords

Access passwords associated with an end entity through the end entity details page under Manage Passwords. This displays all passwords assigned to the end entity, organized by policy.

Creating Passwords

Create new passwords from the end entity details page using the Manage Passwords function. For individual entities, select Add Password and choose the desired policy. For multiple end entities, use the bulk action from the list view.

Resetting Passwords

Reset a password from the end entity details page under Manage Passwords. This generates a new password for the same end entity and policy combination.

When creating or resetting a password, make sure to store it securely; it will not be displayed again.

Deleting Passwords

Remove passwords from the end entity details page under Manage Passwords using the delete function for the relevant policy.

Creating Multiple End Entities with Shared Password

For efficient setup of multiple related end entities, use the Add Multiple tab and upload a completed template file with end entity information.
